Sutton sets the pace in North Carolina

Forest Oaks Country Club, N.C. 23rd April 1998 - Hal Sutton, who has just one victory in the last 12 years, shot a bogey-free 65 and grabbed a one-shot lead after one round of the Greater Greensboro Classic in North Carolina.

Sutton, whose 1995 victory at the B.C. Open is his only US PGA Tour triumph since 1986, overcame wet conditions and rolled in seven birdie putts to grab the lead over David Frost and Chris Perry.

Fuzzy Zoeller, Bob Estes, Brad Faxon and Scott Verplank all shot five-under 67s to lie two shots off the pace. Six others were at 68, including 1993 winner Rocco Mediate.
