Kendall close to North Carolina Record

Greensboro, N.C. 25th April 1998 - Skip Kendall fired a nine-under-par 63 to climb into a tie for the lead with Bob Estes and Scott Verplank after three rounds of the Greater Greensboro Classic in North Carolina.

Kendall, who has never won on the US PGA Tour, was one shot off the course record set by Davis Love in 1992 and matched by Mark O'Meara in 1996. Both went on to win to win the tournament.

Kendall, who lost in a play-off at the Buick Invitational in February, climbed to 12-under 204 along with Estes and Verplank.
Estes began the day tied for the lead with Hal Sutton and shot a par 72. Verplank, who has not won since the 1988 Buick Open, carded a 66.

Ted Tryba shot a 67 to move to 11-under 205, one shot better than Sutton and Jerry Kelly. Sutton struggled to a two-over 74
and Kelly shot 68.

Defending champion Frank Nobilo of New Zealand carded a 71 and was in a four-way tie for seventh on nine-under 207 with Trinidad's Stephen Ames, South African Trevor Dodds and Neal Lancaster.
