Overview

This is the first year of the event, which features the top-50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings, any remaining top-30 players from the PGA TOUR money list, any remaining top-20 players from the European Tour money list and any remaining top-3 players from the Australasia Order of Merit, Southern Africa Order of Merit and Japan Golf Tour money list not already in the field.

Next year's event will also be held at this venue, while the 2001 tournament will be staged in the United States and the 2002 event back in Europe. There will no cut in this event. Valderrama hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup won by the Europeans. This will be the season-ending event on the PGA and EUROPEAN Tour's. Eight of the top-10 ranked players in the world are expected to compete this week.
