| Pampling
gets first tour title in Australia
SYDNEY -- Australian
Rodney Pampling broke through for his first Australasian PGA Tour title on Sunday
when he won the Canon Challenge. The
29-year-old fired a closing round of three-under-par 69 to finish with a total
of 18-under-par 270.
He was three shots clear of Geoff Ogilvy, who closed with a 67. Last week's Australian
Masters champion Craig Spence came with a late rattle to take third after a brilliant
64. Pampling started
the final day five shots clear but let his lead slip to two before recovering
his nerve. He became
the eighth first time winner this season on the Australasian circuit.
"I was a bit worried there
for a while," Pampling said. "I didn't think I'd make another birdie, but I did
and it was nice." |
