Suneson
wins by twoSpain's
Carl Suneson carded a closing round 68 to win the Challenge de Espana in Valencia. It
left him on 280 - eight under - and two shots clear of fellow countryman Manuel
Moreno with another Spaniard, Tomas Jesus Munoz, another shot behind. Suneson,
who has a Swiss father and an English mother and competed for England as an amateur,
had not tasted victory for four years. But while others found the seaside course
at El Saler more demanding when the pressure was on, Suneson stayed positive to
turn a three-shot deficit at the start of the day into his two-stroke triumph. "At
the start I told myself 'You're good. Just be courageous, not aggressive and things
will work out right'. "I
just concentrated on each shot. Last week I missed the cut by a shot in the Spanish
Open after finishing bogey, bogey. I wasn't going to let it happen again." Moreno
and Munoz, who shared the overnight lead on seven under, never got going and although
they were both tied with Suneson coming down the stretch, they could not stay
with him, Moreno finishing with a 73 to Munoz's 74. Yorkshire's
Nick Ludwell finished joint fourth on 284 after a 70. |
