South African star set for debut

Trevor Immelman - the teenage South African hailed as the next Tiger Woods - will make his professional debut at the Compaq European Grand Prix at Slaley Hall, Northumberland, this week.

Immelman, the first non-American to capture the PGA Junior Championship title in 1996, announced his decision to turn professional on Monday.

The 19-year-old said: "The key factor in my decision to turn professional is that I simply feel ready to enter the professional arena.

"I am very excited about the new challenge that lies ahead."
