Heavy
rain forced organisers to abandon play on the first day of the German Masters
on Thursday.
Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez and German Alex Cejka shared
the early lead with 66, four ahead of British Ryder Cup player Colin Montgomerie,
when rain stopped play.
Two hours later organisers announced that due
to the waterlogged course play would be abandoned for the day.
Europe's
Ryder Cup players acquitted themselves well on the Cologne course just four days
after losing to the Americans for the first time in three encounters.
Jimenez held a one-stroke lead with non-Ryder Cup man Alex Cejka of Germany after
a six-under-par 66.
Olazabal birdied six of the first nine holes and has a five-foot putt to save
par on the 12th when play resumes on Friday to retain his share of first place.
Spaniard Sergio
Garcia was only two off the pace and European number one Colin Montgomerie and
Ireland's Padraig Harrington both shot 70s.
