has lead cut to one Garrett
Willis shot an even-par 70 Saturday to stay atop the leaderboard after three rounds
of the Nike Greensboro Open at Sedgefield Country Club. Willis, who entered the
third round with a four-stroke lead, is one shot up on Shaun Micheal.
Willis is 11-under-par
for the event. Micheal shot a three- under-par 67 Saturday to move to 10-under
for the event. A trio of golfers are tied for third at nine-under-par -- Brian
Tennyson, Dicky Thompson and Kevin Johnson. Tennyson and Thompson each fired six-under
64s, while Johnson carded a 65.
Willis had four birdies and four bogeys on his even-par day. "I
knew things were going to be tough after the first hole when I mis-clubbed and
made a bogey," said Willis. "I didn't start feeling comfortable until I made the
turn. I have played a strong back nine all week and I knew that if I could get
through the front I would be all right."
Thompson became the first player to eagle both par-fives at Sedgefield. He is
gunning for his first win on the Nike tour since 1990.
Mike Small is alone in sixth at eight-under-par, after carding a four-under 66.
Chris Tucker, Greg Lesher and J.J. Henry are tied for seventh at seven-under par.
