| Gogel
earns fifth career Nike title Matt
Gogel shot a final-round 3-under-par 69 today to earn his fifth career Nike Tour
victory, a one-shot win at the Louisiana Open.
Gogel earned $54,000 for his four-round total of 11-under 277. Kris Cox finished
one shot back, while Richard Zokol and Tim Clark tied for third at 280.
Gogel has won at least
one Nike Tour event in each of the last four years. He picked up one victory in
1996 and 1997 and was one of five double-winners on the tour last season.
Gogel had four birdies
on the first 12 holes but almost gave it away down the stretch. He bogeyed the
13th and 18th hole while a hard-charging Cox birdied three of four holes from
13 to 16. Cox could only manage a pair of pars on the last two holes and had to
settle for his best-ever finish on the Nike Tour.
Casey Martin carded a final-round 71 and tied for seventh at 5-under 283, his
best finish of the year. |
