| Daly
takes six putts on last hole before withdrawing
John Daly wasn't
having a good day before he got to the 18th hole in the opening round of the Memorial
Tournament today. Then it got worse.
The last hole proved to be his last hole as he withdrew after a six-putt 10 for
an 82 on the 444-yard, par-4 hole. It was the highest score on the hole in the
tournament's 24 years.
Daly was 4-over on the round as he stood over an uphill 8-foot par putt at the
finishing hole.
He rolled the ball 2 feet past the cup, then quickly stroked the comeback putt
4 feet down the hill. He again putted quickly, pushing his uphill putt a couple
of feet past the hole.
On his fourth putt, he took a stab at the ball even as he kicked at it. He finally
two-putted from 5 feet for his 10.
After his playing partners finished, he walked off the green and between the ropes
leading to the scorer's tent. He was handed a hat to autograph and after signing
it, he threw the hat over his head behind him.
Daly then withdrew from the tournament.
He declined to comment.
