Gordon Brand pulls out of Open

Scotland's Gordon Brand Jnr has withdrawn from this week's Open Championship at Carnoustie due to his wife being unwell.

The 40-year-old, who finished fifth behind Nick Faldo at Muirfield in 1992, did not travel from his Bristol home in order to stay with wife Sheena.

Brand, who played in the Ryder Cup in 1987 and 1989, finished 13th at Royal Birkdale last year to gain an exemption to this year's championship.
