Money start to flow in for LawriePaul
Lawrie did not have to wait long for the money to roll in just like the putts
which won him the Open championship. Lawrie's
victory earned him £350,000 and this afternoon his club sponsors Wilson confirmed
a £50,000 bonus for capturing the biggest prize in the sport. "Everyone
at Wilson is delighted for Paul and we are happy to pay him his well-deserved
bonus," said Angus Moir, sales and marketing director for Wilson in Europe. "We
couldn't have asked for more branding and a product endorsement as the tournament
reached his climax. "And
the Fat Shaft clubs Paul used so well to negotiate the play-off and carry the
Barry Burn are already top sellers in the UK market, so we expect demand to reach
record proportions in the next few months." At
the start of this season the 30-year-old from Aberdeen signed a three-year extension
to his contract with Wilson, with whom he first had a contract in 1993. Included
in the new deal were larger bonuses for victories in majors and regular tour events. Meanwhile,
Lawrie has also received an invitation to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Hawaii
(November 16-17). The
tournament is 36 holes matchplay between this season's four Major winners carrying
a first prize of 400,000 US Dollars and even the players finishing last receives
100,000 US Dollars. The
invitation presents Lawrie with a problem as the World Cup in Malaysia, where
he is due to represent Scotland, runs from November 18-21.
