With four sub-70
rounds (68, 65, 67, 68), Scotland's Paul Lawrie made the Qatar Masters title his
own, moving further ahead of the field in the final round at the Doha Golf Club
to win by seven shots on -20.
His nearest rivals finishing tied second
on -13 were Søren Kjeldsen of Denmark and Phil Price of Wales, followed closely
by John Bickerton of England.
As Lawrie said after his win, "Attitude-wise,
I was "in the zone". Whatever happened out there, I dealt with it and kept focused
throughout. I didn't start off too well, but hitting it close at the fourth settled
me down and I played beautifully from there on.
"Adam Hunter had given
me a couple of swing thoughts recently, and they worked perfectly. I'm also a
lot better mentally, and that's definitely helped.
"My target now is
to play more consistently week-in week-out - and playing for Scotland in the Dunhill
Cup for the first time would definitely be a big target for this year.
"I didn't sleep too well last night, I paced about most of the time. Everything
was going through my mind, so I watched TV - movies and cricket - I hate cricket,
but I watched it anyway !"
