Sam
Torrance will regard it as the greatest honour of his life if he is asked to be
Europe's Ryder Cup captain, succeeding Mark James who believes that he will return
to the Belfry in 2001 - as a player.
If
he does then Torrance will ensure that the behaviour of players and crowd alike
will be better at The Belfry in 2001 than it was in Boston this weekend. Torrance
was outraged at the antics of the crowd and more so the players, interviewed on
Sky Sports moments after the infamous invasion of the 17th, he was visibly livid
and described it as "disgusting"
Torrance
said: "I don't think I'm good enough to make the next team - but I certainly
want to be there. To
be captain would be the greatest honour of my life, but until I am offered it
I can't comment on it."
Perhaps
by using the phrase "until" rather than "if" may be a hint
that he has already been earmarked for the role.
