JOHANNESBURG -- Germans Alex Cejka, Thomas Gogele and Sven Strüver;
Scandinavian Per-Ulrik Johansson, Joakim Haeggman, Mathias Grönberg
and Patrik Sjöland and Brits Nick Faldo, David Carter, Eamonn Darcy
and Justin Rose join southern Africans Ernie Els, David Frost, Retief Goosen,
Mark McNulty, Wayne Westner and defending champion Tony Johnstone
to lead the list of entries for the Alfred Dunhill PGA Championship, which will
be played at Houghton Golf Club from 14th to 17th January 1999.
The event, which will host a field of 156 players, is part of both the PGA European
and the Vodacom Tours and will be played for a prize fund of £400 000.
Current leaders of the
Vodacom Tour Order of Merit, Ashley Roestoff, Sammy Daniels, Marc Cayeux, Justin
Hobday and Bobby Lincoln are also set to compete.
Players will have the opportunity of winning an Audi Cabriolet for the first hole-in-one
on the 15th hole during the final round of play," said Iain Banner, the tournament
director. Houghton
Golf Club has been upgraded in preparation for the forthcoming event, the most
significant change being that the nines have been switched for the 1999 Alfred
Dunhill PGA Championship.
In addition, changes made to the last few holes at the Houghton course will certainly
add to the excitement of a close finish, with the par-5 18th bound to elicit much
excitement at the close of the tournament. |
