Westwood given all clear to defend title

Lee Westwood has been given the thumbs-up by his doctor to defend his title at this week's Deutsche Bank-SAP Open TPC of Europe in Heidelberg.

Westwood was unable to defend his Compaq Classic title in New Orleans this month because of pain in his right arm and shoulder area. The problem also kept him from playing at the Benson & Hedges International Open at the Oxfordshire.

Westwood's neurologist has diagnosed the problem as inflammation around the nerves in the region of his lower neck and upper back, probably triggered by the virus Lee picked up during The Masters last month.
