Nine
on the last sinks Rose A
nine at the last ruined Justin Rose's hopes of avoiding 20 missed cuts in succession
since turning pro as he slumped to a second round 81 in the Tournament Players
Championship of Europe on Saturday.
The 19-year-old Englishman was in sight of qualifying when two early birdies left
him on the predicted one-over-par cut-off mark by the turn.
But things went from bad to worse from the 10th, which he double-bogeyed, and
Rose closed with a five-over-par nine on the 18th for a two-round 11-over-par
155. At the disastrous last
he compounded a bad approach shot by taking another ball, thinking his first had
gone into the lake, without declaring it a provisional. When he found his original
ball dry he had to use his second ball as the one in play.
Fellow Briton and former double major champion Sandy Lyle was disqualified after
failing to putt out at his last hole, having slumped to eight-over-par.
