Play
at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic was suspended today after nearly two inches
of rain fell, and the completion of the already shortened tournament was pushed
back to Monday.
Only 40 of the 74 players who made the 36-hole cut had teed off Sunday before
a 3 1/2-hour rain delay that turned into a suspension of play. None of the players
had finished their third round, the first group having reached the 15th hole.
The tournament
already had been shortened to 54 holes because, like The Tour Championship in
Houston, the Southern Farm Bureau had suspended play Friday for the memorial service
of U.S. Open champion Payne Stewart.
"The
decision was made early this past week that if we did not play on Friday we would
go to Monday, if needed, to play 54 holes," PGA Tour official Arvin Ginn said.
"The course is about as
bad as it can get in ground conditions and turf conditions."
Chris DiMarco and Brian Henninger were the co-leaders after two rounds at 11-under
133. They held a three-stroke lead over Russ Cochran and Perry Moss.
Henninger got his only PGA Tour victory at Annandale in 1994, winning a one-hole
playoff in the rain-shortened 36-hole Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic, the predecessor
to the Southern Farm Bureau Classic.
