US Open prize money tops £2m

The winner of the US Open, which begins tomorrow, will earn £388,319 from a total purse of nearly £2.2million.

The event also counts for the European Order of Merit and the Ryder Cup table, although the player winning this week's Moroccan Open will earn more points than anybody finishing fourth at Pinehurst.

A total of 16 Europeans are in the US Open field - seven Britons, five Swedes, two Spaniards, Dane Thomas Bjorn and German Sven Struver.
