Torrance back in
form Veteran
Sam Torrance, who has missed seven cuts in eight European Tour events this year,
put his recent struggles behind him with a four-under-par 68 in the second round
of the British PGA on Saturday.
The Scot, who holed the winning putt in the 1985 Ryder Cup at The Belfry, collected
four birdies in a flawless round.
Torrance's scores of 70 and 68 kept him in touch with the early halfway leader
Ernie Els, who moved to nine-under-par 135 after successive rounds of 68 and 67.
"That's much better!
I've only made one cut before now this year so this has to be my best round this
season. I played very solid today," Torrance said.
His only tournament finish so far this year in Europe came with his 59th place
in the Turespana Masters.
A European Tour veteran with 28 years' experience, Torrance, 45, has played every
PGA since 1972. "I
love it here and I've played all 15 here at Wentworth. It's nice to play well
on a tough, demanding golf course and now I'm going to go for it over the next
two days. "I'm
going to play the best golf I can, try to win this title and get into the Ryder
Cup team. That's not much to ask!"
