withdraws because of elbow injury
San Francisco, 16th June 1998 - Bill Glasson, winner of seven career
PGA titles, withdrew on Tuesday from the U.S. Open golf championship at the Olympic
Club due to a recurring elbow injury. Glasson,
who tied for fifth this year at the BellSouth Classic, has played only three tournaments
in 1998. He missed the cut at the Masters and withdrew after two rounds of the
Colonial in his only two other events. Taking
Glasson's place in the 156-man field for the U.S. championship starting on Thursday
is Perry Moss (of Shreveport, La.). Moss, the first alternate, was involved in
a 5-for-1 playoff in sectional qualifying in Cincinnati won by Casey Martin. Moss
has won once on the Nike Tour, claiming victory in the 1992 Texarkana Open.
