Langer withdraws, is replaced by Lancaster

Redmond, Washington. - German star Bernhard Langer, a two-time U.S. Masters winner, will has withdrawn from this week's PGA Championship at the Sahalee Country Club due to a strained neck.

Neal Lancaster of Smithfield, N.C., replaces Langer in the field.

Langer has played in 12 PGA Championships with his best finish being a tie for 21st in 1987 at PGA National. Larry Nelson was the winner that year. Langer tied for 23rd last year at Winged Foot, finishing 16 strokes behind champion Davis Love III.

Langer, who will turn 41 on August 27, has won three times on the U.S. PGA Tour, including the 1985 and '93 Masters. He also captured he Sea Pines Heritage Classic in '85. He has 51 victories worldwide, many of them on the PGA European Tour, but he is winless this year.

On Sunday, Langer tied for 13th in the German Open. Langer, who plays the majority of his golf on the European PGA Tour, performed in the German Open this past weekend, finishing in a tie for 13th place.
