Steve Salmon, tournament director, says "We are really excited about running this event. We have made a determined effort to make sure this event will be the best of its kind, and we think this is incredible value. We purposely chose Half Term holidays so that more families will be able to attend. We carefully chose our venue and are delighted to confirm PortAventura as the hosts. It is easy and inexpensive to get to from all over Europe with flights into Barcelona or Reus." [Travellers from the UK can take flights with Ryanair flying into Reus Airport, or Easyjet and BA into Barcelona Airport - see the latest flight offers by clicking here.]

"The golf course is of a quality which our competitors will enjoy playing. There is a theme park next door and the town of Salou with plenty of bars and restaurants for families to have a good time. We are also encouraging the teams to bring the rest of their family for this excellent week, as we want to make it one big family celebration. And watch this space, as we are currently in negotiations whereby the winning team will go on to compete in other prestigious world Father and Son events!"

PortAventura up to now has been one of Europe’s premier Tourist Theme Parks and wanted to build a world class golf resort. Their dream has now been fulfilled and boasts 45 holes of golf (the North and South courses, plus a 9 hole) that will compete with the best resorts in Spain. In addition, there will be two brand new clubhouses, a theme park, four hotels and a stunning beach club overlooking the Mediterranean.

The resort commissioned Greg Norman to build their Championship (North) Course and the result is a masterpiece of course design, with Norman said to be “very happy with the layout”. The course is close to the sea, with numerous lakes and wetlands, situated in a protected nature area and accompanied by wide and extensive greens. With tees for all levels of golfer, it is slightly undulating and fairly easy walking. The course has extensive practice facilities to improve every type of shot, and the Mediterranean-style clubhouse offers all the services to match both player and non-players' needs, includings a pro-shop, golf-club room, changing rooms, café and restaurant amongst other things.

Portaventura’s golf course director Fabricio Llanza is delighted with the hosting of The European Father & Son Golf Championship and said “We are over the moon to secure such a prestigious event in our first year. It is going to be a fantastic event with Fathers & Sons competing from all over Europe. They are going to have a wonderful time on the Costa Dorada. Salou is a great family destination with plenty of things to do. In addition, with our Theme park and the new Greg Norman course I think it is going to put Costa Dorada on the map as Spain’s new golf destination.”
