Hotel Don Carlos invests 25 million euros in new look
Setting New Trends
While many Marbella hotels endured a slow start to the year with low winter and spring
occupancy figures on the Costa del Sol, the 5-star Hotel Don Carlos Beach & Golf
Resort sailed into 2006 fully booked. Beating off competition from an ever-increasing
number of 5-star establishments in the area, the iconic hotel benefits from a radical
facelift that has transformed the hotel into a haven of designer desirability.
Representing an investment of some 25 million euros, the all-encompassing renovations
programme has been carried out over the last five years.
Designs on the Future
Maximising the potential of the hotel’s 60’s post-modernist architecture, the flavour of the
new interior by Gatserelia Design International is contemporary retro chic. The ambience
is modern, yet enduring, with high quality materials and a neutral colour palette to
achieve a timeless elegance. Bold splashes of colour, such as the red chaise-longue in each room, the Strange Thing
chairs by design guru Philippe Starck greeting visitors as they step out of the lift on each
floor and the abstract, Gary Edwards bullfighting and flamenco photographs add unique
touches of style. The impressive lobby features futuristic lighting and bespoke mosaic
tiles by Bisazza, some crafted in real gold.
Created around elements that enhance the generous measures of light and space, such
as glass, mirrors and naturally bleached oak wood paneling and luxuriant carpet, the
rooms are fitted with brand new bathrooms, complete with Molten Brown toiletries. A Hi Tech Haven
When guests are not looking in awe at the spectacular views from each floor across the
whole bay of Marbella, they can keep their laptops and Blackberries busy with a variety
of internet connections; plug and play at the desk in every room, wireless connection
from the portable TV keyboard, and for the more disciplined business traveller, wi-fi
connection at the pools, gardens and beach club makes it possible to surf the net from
the comfort of a sun bed; unprecedented privileges, indeed, in a Marbella hotel.
