Emirates Golf Club recognized as best in the Middle East
Middle East Golfer awards Emirates Golf Club as the Best Golf Club and Best Order of Merit Event in the region at the annual gala dinner
Emirates Golf Club continues to garner the spotlight after hosting last week's 20 th Anniversary of the Dubai Desert Classic, by receiving the Best Golf Club of the Year Overall in the Region at the Middle East Golfer Awards on Wednesday, February 4 th at The Montgomerie Dubai, Golf Club.
With a rich 21 year history, Emirates Golf Club took home top honours in the evening's final and most prestigious award nomination category, which attracted the 'movers and shakers' in the Middle East Golf Industry, and a guest star appearance from #6 in the world Henrik Stenson.
"It is a great honour to be recognized in such a elite company as the other nominees, and we have just capped an amazing week hosting the 20 th Anniversary of the Dubai Desert Classic on the Majlis Course. I dedicate this award to the members of Emirates Golf Club who make a considerable sacrifice year-in-year-out in lending the golf course to organisers in order to host the prestigious event. The unwavering commitment we receive from members who give up their time to be volunteers, and support other operational functions with the tournament is unbelievable," noted Chris May, General Manager of Emirates Golf Club.
Managing Director Rod Bogg reinforced May's comments, saying: "This award is particularly gratifying as it recognizes the quality of the entire operation, and not just the golf courses" stated Bogg, who opened the Club in 1988.
"Much of the credit is due to Chris and his team for maintaining the standards for which Dubai is justly proud, and ensuring that as many people as possible enjoy the facilities whilst still making sure that members are well looked after," he continued.
Emirates Golf Club was given the name of the "Desert Miracle" when it became the first all-grass championship golf course in the Middle East in 1988. Since then it has become one of the best Golf Club's worldwide, and was recognized in 2005 as a Top 100 Golf Course outside North America in Golf Digest's prestigious rankings. It has continued to mature, adding a second 18-Hole Championship course, The Faldo, and is home to numerous restaurants, bars and function space to host corporate events. A newly renovated French fine-dining restaurant named Le Classique re-opened to members and the public on February 3, 2008.
Emirates Golf Club was also recognized earlier in the evening at the Middle East Golfer Awards for Best Order of Merit Event for the Emirates Amateur Open, which coincidentally gets going this upcoming weekend (February 6-7) on the Majlis Course.
"Over time the Emirates Amateur Open has built an identity of its own, offering a unique event for the best amateurs in the world to play a golf course in conditions
that closely resemble what the professional's experience when playing the Dubai Desert Classic," Chris May stated.
"We have past champions that have gone on to become excellent professionals, and this year is no exception. The quality and depth of the amateur field for the Emirates Amateur Open is truly astounding," he continued.
Amateurs from 37 Golf Clubs around the world, including amateurs from golf clubs in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Bahrain and Qatar will compete for the championship.
EGC's Matthew Turner will most definitely be among the favorites, following up on last week's performance when he made the cut at the Dubai Desert Classic and finished T-51 st .
